Geology Field Trips Page
Curricular Topics, Britain’s geological past, Fossil record, Landslip Sedimentary processes ,Lithoseral succession
A WALK THROUGH TIME,The Jurassic coast (95 miles through Dorset and East Devon) is England’s only natural World Heritage site. It depicts ‘a walk through time’ spanning the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. Geological principles and fieldwork techniques for GCSE and A level are covered in the courses.
FOSSIL HUNTING, The beaches around Lyme Regis and Charmouth are the very best places to find fossils. Ammonites,
belemnites and bones from ichthyosaurs are frequently uncovered by tides, particularly after a spell of rough weather.
SEDIMENTARY PROCESSES, There is local evidence of deposition, erosion and weathering; investigation may be made into sea level rise and fall in the geological past.
LITHOSERAL SUCCESSION, Chesil Beach is also an excellent place to demonstrate standard techniques in investigating beach structure.

LANDSLIP, The area around Lyme Regis is extremely prone to landslip. Recent rock falls may be observed as well as man’s attempts to prevent further slips
